In this video, we reach the final words of the Apostle Peter as we conclude our verse by verse study of 2 Peter. Just as world leaders often leave behind a roadmap or a strategy for their organizations when they step down, Peter leaves the church with a clear four-point plan for the future. These are not merely suggestions; they are commands intended to shape the conduct and heart of every believer who reads them. Using a simple framework, we look at how we are called to gauge, glean, guard, and grow in our walk with Jesus.

The study begins in 2 Peter 3:14, where we are instructed to gauge our spiritual health. Peter challenges us to make every effort to be found spotless and blemish-free in the sight of God. While we know that we can never work our way to perfection, we recognize that through the blood of Christ, we are redeemed and empowered to live holy lives. This is about being active in our faith rather than sliding into the habits of the world. We also find comfort in the patience of our Lord, understanding that His grace provides us with the opportunity to continually turn back to Him when we stumble.

Next, we are called to glean from the Word of God. Peter highlights the importance of the Scriptures, even mentioning the letters of the Apostle Paul. He warns that those who are untaught or unstable often twist the Bible to their own destruction. To remain stable, we must be people who study and rightly interpret the truth. This ensures we are not led astray by the errors of lawless people but remain firm in our position in Christ.

This leads naturally to our responsibility to guard our lives. Even strong Christians can be led away by hypocrisy or false doctrine if they are not vigilant. Peter knows this from personal experience, and he reminds us to watch over our doctrine and our associations. We must be aware of who we are listening to and what we are allowing to influence our hearts.

Finally, we are commanded to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior. Spiritual growth should be a lifelong pursuit. It is not just about academic facts, but about a personal, relational knowledge of Jesus. As we wrap up this series, we remember that Christ is the source of everything we need for life and godliness. To Him be the glory, both now and forever!

In this Bible study from 2 Peter 3:8-13, we explore the wonderful reliability of God’s word in a message titled Promises, Promises. Many of us know what it is like to deal with a promise debt, but our God is a lavish promise maker who always follows through. As we continue our verse by verse journey through the New Testament, we address the common struggle of waiting for the Lord to return and establish His kingdom.

Peter reminds us that God relates to time differently than we do. To the Lord, a thousand years is like a single day. This is not a delay in the way humans understand it, but rather a display of His incredible patience and kindness. He is holding the door of salvation open because He does not want anyone to perish, but desires for all to come to repentance. This study looks at the heart of God and His deep desire to reconcile people to Himself before the day of the Lord arrives.

We also discuss the reality of the coming judgment, described as a day when the elements will melt with fervent heat and the earth will be disclosed. While this sounds terrifying, for the believer, it is the necessary purification of creation to make way for the new heavens and a new earth where righteousness dwells. We talk about our responsibility as disciples to live in holy conduct and godliness. Peter actually uses the plural form of these words, godlinesses, to show us that there are countless ways we can please God in our daily lives, from how we treat our families to the choices we make at work.

One of the most challenging parts of this passage is the idea that we can actually hasten the coming of the day of God. By living out our faith, practicing daily repentance, and sharing the Gospel, we participate in the work of redemption. If you have been searching for peace or wondering about the future of our world, this message from a Calvary Chapel perspective offers true hope. We invite you to study along with us as we look at the certainty of Christ’s return and what it means to be a citizen of His eternal kingdom. In this teaching from our verse by verse study through the New Testament, we look at 2 Peter chapter 3 and the reality of the second coming of Jesus Christ. Peter begins this section by reminding us of the importance of being stirred up in our faith. He uses a beautiful term for the believers, calling them beloved. This reminds us that we are the objects of God’s love, and because He loves us, He gives us clear instructions on how to navigate the days we live in.

Peter warns us about the rise of scoffers in the last days. These are individuals who follow their own desires and mock the idea that Christ will return or that a final judgment is coming. They often rely on the argument that things have always been the same since the beginning of creation. However, Peter points out that this is a deliberate choice to overlook how God has intervened in history before. From the very creation of the world by the word of God to the global judgment of the flood in the time of Noah, God has shown that He is active, He is holy, and He is a judge.

As we see the world around us changing, it is easy to become apathetic or even fearful. But for those of us in the Calvary Chapel family and the broader body of Christ, these truths should animate our lives. Peter encourages us to anchor our spirituality on the reliable revelation of God’s word rather than our own shifting feelings or experiences. Both the Old Testament prophets and the New Testament apostles provide a consistent message: Jesus is coming back.

Just as Harry Truman at Mount St. Helens ignored repeated warnings of the coming eruption, many today scoff at the warnings found in the Bible. But God is patient, not wanting anyone to perish but wanting all to come to repentance. This study challenges us to examine where we stand. Are we awake and invigorated by the hope of the Gospel? Or have we allowed the noise of the world to lull us into a spiritual sleep? Join us as we look at what it means to live with situational awareness, recognizing that we are indeed living in the last days and that our hope is found in the return of our Lord and Savior.

Welcome to our verse-by-verse Bible study through the New Testament. In this message, we continue our journey through 2 Peter 2:17-22, where the Apostle Peter issues a sobering warning against the spiritual “swill milk” being sold by false teachers in the early church.

Drawing a parallel from the tragic history of the 1850s swill milk scandal in New York City where thousands of infants died from tainted milk stretched with plaster and molasses, we see that spiritual deception is just as lethal. Peter describes these deceivers as springs without water and mists driven by a storm. They promise total freedom and secret enlightenment, but their lives are actually marked by fleshly desires and enslavement to sin.

In this Calvary Chapel teaching, we examine the marks of a false teacher and the consequences of their influence. From a conservative, evangelical perspective, we dive into the biblical distinction between true liberty in Jesus Christ and the counterfeit freedom offered by the world. While these teachers offer “Pure Country Milk,” it is a grotesque mixture of error that targets new believers and those searching for spiritual truth.

Key Themes in this Study:
The Character of Deception: Understanding why Peter compares false teachers to empty wells and aimless clouds.

True Freedom vs. Bondage: Exploring how serving Jesus as Lord leads to a “watered garden” life (Isaiah 58:11) while serving self leads to corruption.

Eternal Security and Transformation: A biblical look at verses 20-22. We discuss why a truly saved believer is guarded by God’s power (1 Peter 1:5) and how the analogy of the dog and the sow points to a lack of inward nature change rather than a loss of salvation.

The Living Water: How to distinguish the life-giving Word of God from the stench of modern spiritual “swill.”

If you are a student of the Bible or someone seeking to know more about the God of Israel and the grace of Jesus, we hope this study encourages you to look intently into the “perfect law of freedom.” Our goal is to be doers of the Word, not hearers only, as we grow together in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior.

In this verse-by-verse study of 2 Peter 2:10-16, we explore the apostle Peter’s direct warnings concerning the identification and influence of false teachers within the church. Using vivid imagery and historical examples, Peter provides a “field guide” for believers to distinguish between true shepherds and those who operate with the “venom” of spiritual deception. This teaching is essential for anyone interested in Bible study, Christianity, or the protection of the local church body from modern-day wolves in sheep’s clothing.

A central theme in this passage is the contrast between the arrogance of false teachers and the restraint of holy angels. Peter describes these deceivers as bold and headstrong, showing no reverence for celestial beings or divine authority. In a conservative, Calvary Chapel tradition, we emphasize that true biblical boldness is empowered by the Holy Spirit to speak God’s Word, whereas the boldness of these false teachers is rooted in self-will and personal ambition. We look at how even powerful angels do not bring slanderous charges, reminding us of the importance of tempering our speech with the fear of the Lord.

Peter further identifies these individuals by their lifestyle, describing them as “irrational animals” or creatures of instinct. Rather than being led by the Spirit, they are driven by base human urges, greed, and a desire for self-indulgence. This study examines the “Path of Balaam,” an Old Testament figure who prioritizes financial gain and personal desire over the clear commands of God. Like Balaam, modern false teachers often seduce “unstable souls” who are not firmly grounded in the truth of Scripture.

For those searching for videos from Calvary Chapel or interested in Jesus and the life of faith, this teaching offers a sobering look at the necessity of being born again. To live on a plane higher than mere animal instinct, we must have a supernatural relationship with God through Jesus Christ. By anchoring our lives in the Word, we become established and secure, no longer easy prey for the enemy who seeks to devour.

We conclude by looking at the mercy of God, who provides “pitstops” for repentance even for those who have gone astray. Whether you are a student of the New Testament or someone seeking spiritual clarity, this study encourages you to remain on the straight path of righteousness. Join us as we learn to spot the “spots and blemishes” and instead pursue a life that is pure and thriving in the grace of our Savior.

In this verse-by-verse Bible study of 2 Peter 2:4-10, we examine the certainty of divine justice and the incredible reality of God’s mercy. While human legal systems often struggle to provide true justice, the Bible reveals that God is a righteous Judge with universal jurisdiction. This teaching explores the “if/then” logic Peter uses to demonstrate that if God judged the ancient world, He will surely bring the final judgment upon the unrighteous after Christ’s return.

Peter provides three specific historical examples to illustrate this reality. First, we look at the celestial level: the fallen angels or “Watchers” from Genesis 6 who were cast into Tartarus—a specific compartment of the afterlife described as an abyss of darkness and chains. We also see the global level through the account of Noah and the flood. While the world was consumed by wickedness, Noah, a preacher of righteousness, found grace and refuge. Finally, we look at the local level with the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, which serves as a perpetual warning of the coming judgment by fire.

A central theme of this study is the contrast between the godly and the unrighteous. We see this most clearly in the life of Lot. Though Lot was compromised and distressed by the immorality of his culture, the New Testament repeatedly calls him “righteous.” This provides a beautiful picture of God’s grace toward those who are weak or struggling. We recognize that our standing before God is not based on our own perfection but on the righteousness of Jesus Christ credited to us by faith.

If you are searching for hope in difficult times or wondering how to navigate a culture that despises authority, this video offers biblical clarity. We discuss:

The biblical definition of Tartarus and the afterlife.

The difference between Noah’s preaching faith and Lot’s paralyzed faith.

How God rescues the godly from trials while keeping the unrighteous for judgment.

The prophetic significance of the Nephilim and the days of Noah.

Why the “path of righteousness” is the only way to escape the second death.

Whether you are a longtime follower of Jesus or someone curious about Christianity and the Bible, we invite you to study the Word of God with us. Judgment is inevitable, but through Christ, it is not inescapable.

Identifying Deception in the Church: A Study of 2 Peter 2:1-3
How do we distinguish between a teacher who awakens wonder and one who subtly undermines our faith? In this verse-by-verse Bible study, we dive into the second chapter of 2 Peter to examine the sobering reality of false teachers. Peter warns us that just as there were false prophets in the Old Testament, there will be those among us who smuggle in destructive heresies.

The Subtle Art of Spiritual Infection
False teaching rarely looks like an obvious frontal assault on Christianity. Instead, Peter describes it as something smuggled in “alongside” orthodox doctrine. It is a spiritual contagion, much like a virus, that seeks to afflict the body of Christ. Whether it is a college professor redefining the person of Jesus or a modern influencer prioritizing personal license over biblical morality, the goal is the same: to knock believers off balance.

Key Marks of a False Teacher
Based on 2 Peter 2:1-3, we can identify several red flags:

Wrong Christology: Denying the Master who bought them, often by claiming His commands are outdated or that His Word is insufficient.

Sectarian Spirit: Creating factions and siphoning people away into exclusive groups.

Moral Compromise: Promoting a path of depravity and personal license that maligned the way of truth.

Exploitation and Greed: Using “made-up stories” to make merchandise of believers.

Standing Firm as the Remnant
While Peter’s warning is serious, it is not meant to cause fear. It is meant to build our spiritual antibodies. Just as Obadiah and the Rechabites stood firm during eras of national idolatry, you and I can remain rooted in the truth today. We are called to be like the Bereans in Acts 17, daily examining the Scriptures to see if the things we hear are true.

In this Calvary Chapel teaching, we look at why numbers and influence do not always equal truth. We explore the doctrine of imminence and why it matters that Christ’s atonement was provided for all. Most importantly, we learn that our best defense is to stay submitted to the Holy Spirit and to escape the influence of those who would lead us away from the simplicity of the Gospel.

Join us as we continue our New Testament journey through 2 Peter, learning to walk in discernment, grace, and the strength that God provides to those who follow Him.

In this study of 2 Peter 1, we address a question that every believer and seeker eventually asks: How do we know who to trust? The world is full of “experts” and persuasive voices claiming to have the secret to happiness or spiritual enlightenment. Using the startling historical example of Fred Demara—the “Great Imposter” who faked dozens of high-level careers—we look at how the Apostle Peter warned the early church against spiritual phonies and destructive heresies.

From a Calvary Chapel perspective, we believe in the absolute reliability and sufficiency of the Word of God. Peter wasn’t sharing “cleverly contrived myths” or spiritual allegories; he was sharing what he saw with his own eyes. As we examine 2 Peter 1:16-18, we revisit the Transfiguration on the holy mountain. This wasn’t just a vision; it was a literal, bodily preview of the second coming of Jesus Christ in power and glory. For those interested in Bible prophecy and the end times, Peter confirms that the Kingdom of God is not merely a feeling in our hearts, but a future reality where Christ will rule and reign.

One of the most important takeaways from this teaching is the “strongly confirmed” nature of prophetic Scripture. Just as the 300+ prophecies regarding Jesus’ first coming were fulfilled literally—from His birth in Bethlehem to His crucifixion—we can trust that the prophecies regarding His return are equally literal. Peter describes the Bible as a lamp shining in a dark place. In a fallen world shrouded in spiritual gloom, the Word of God provides the illumination we need to navigate life until the “Morning Star,” Jesus Himself, returns.

Finally, we discuss the doctrine of biblical inspiration. We believe that “men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” The Bible is not a collection of human opinions or personal interpretations; it is the divinely inspired, infallible rule of faith for the Christian life. Our role is not to twist the text to fit our personal agendas, but to submit our lives to the truth revealed in its pages.

Whether you are a long-time student of the Bible or someone exploring Christianity for the first time, this video will help you discern truth from error. We invite you to move closer to the Light of Christ and build a life that stands firm on the evidence of God’s Word.

In this verse-by-verse study of 2 Peter 1:12-15, we look at the necessity of spiritual memory. Most of us have forgotten the algebra or trigonometry we learned in high school, and while being rusty at long division won’t hurt your walk with God, forgetting the truth of the Gospel certainly will. Peter, writing his final will and testament, focuses his remaining energy on reminding the church of the truths they already know. Even if you are established in the faith, truth needs to be repeated to keep us from becoming spiritually drowsy.

Peter describes his approaching death as laying aside a “bodily tent.” This Calvary Chapel Bible study explores how the apostle viewed his departure not as a defeat, but as an exodus. We examine what it means to be established in the truth so that we are not knocked over by false teachers or the trials of life. Whether you are searching for Jesus, interested in biblical prophecy, or looking to grow in your Christian faith, this teaching highlights the importance of thickening the foundation of your life through the Word of God.

We explore the command Jesus gave Peter to “strengthen your brothers” and how Peter faithfully fulfilled that duty until his final breath. This video is part of our systematic journey through the New Testament, designed for those who want to study the Bible deeply but without the stuffy atmosphere. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we take the Word of God very seriously. Join us as we learn why we must “over-learn” the Gospel to remain stirred up and ready for whatever the future holds.

Main Points Covered:
The tendency of human beings toward spiritual amnesia.

Why even mature Christians need constant reminders of the Gospel.

The biblical definition of being established in the truth.

Peter’s perspective on death as a departure and an exodus.

The responsibility of every believer to stay awake and stirred up.

If you are looking for Calvary Chapel teachings or simply want to know more about the God of Israel and the salvation found in Jesus Christ, we hope this study encourages you. Let’s stop worrying about calculating pi and start focusing on the eternal truths that fortify our souls.

Is God A Communist? (Tiers In The Kingdom)

Is God a communist?

We tend to think that all rewards are totally equal in God’s Kingdom, but the Bible teaches the opposite. There are tiers of reward, authority, and glory in Christ’s Kingdom.

There are a variety of passages that explain this to us, whether it’s 2 Peter 1:11, Paul’s remarks about the Bema in 1 Corinthians 3, Jesus’ parable of the master and the faithful servants, or the different eternal crowns listed in the New Testament.

The idea that there are degrees of glory in the Kingdom shouldn’t make us upset. After all, God has supplied everything we need to be lavishly, richly rewarded as His people. The only thing that can stop us is US if we decide not to run our race to win the race, which will limit what God is able to lavish on us when we step into His Kingdom.

In this verse-by-verse Bible study of 2 Peter 1:10-11, we address the “Entrance Exam” of the Christian life. Are you ever worried about being disqualified from heaven on a technicality? Much like the story of Olympic athlete Jim Thorpe, who had his gold medals stripped away over a minor rule, many believers fear that their salvation rests on their own perfect performance. However, the Apostle Peter offers a different perspective on how we can confirm our calling and election.

Dive into a passage that many consider a doctrinal minefield. We explore whether Peter is teaching that we must “Christian hard enough” to stay saved, or if he is showing us how to live a life that is useful and fruitful. We tackle tough questions about the assurance of salvation, the danger of being a “carnal Christian,” and whether sinless perfection is possible on this side of eternity.

Peter encourages us to make every effort to supplement our faith, not because we are working to earn a spot in the Kingdom of God, but because we want to verify the genuineness of our faith through spiritual fruit. We discuss the difference between “stumbling” into damnation and “coming to grief” in our walk with the Lord. Drawing from Peter’s own life and his restoration by Jesus, we see that while we may falter, our position in Christ is anchored and secure.

One of the most intriguing parts of this study is the reality of rewards in the Kingdom. Peter suggests that for the growing Christian, an entrance into the eternal kingdom will be “richly provided.” We look at what the Bible says about different crowns, tiers of reward, and the evaluation of our works. Following a conservative, evangelical understanding of Scripture, we see that while salvation is a gift of grace, our faithfulness as disciples determines the quality of our inheritance.

Whether you are new to the Bible or looking for a deeper understanding of Jesus and His promises, this message will help you stop living in fear and start running the race with purpose. We aren’t just waiting for heaven; we are preparing for the literal, physical Kingdom where Jesus will rule from Jerusalem. Join us as we learn how to stay established in the truth and grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior.

Whether you diligently track your steps, watch your cholesterol, or panic when the doctor mentions your eGFR, we all understand the importance of monitoring our physical health. But what about our spiritual vitals? In this video, titled “2 Peter 1:5-9 – Good Faith Effort,” we treat the Apostle Peter’s words as a blood test for the soul, looking for the markers that indicate a thriving Christian life.

Peter urges believers to “make every effort to supplement your faith.” In our verse-by-verse Bible study, we unpack the fascinating Greek root of this word “supplement,” which gives us our English concepts of chorus and choreography. The picture is not one of us trying to “dead-lift” godliness in our own power. Instead, God is the Director who has lavishly paid all the expenses and provided the script. Our role is to get out on the stage and join the divine production. It is like receiving a car as a gift; you do not pay for it, but you are expected to drive it.

We explore the specific virtues Peter lists: goodness, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love. We clarify that this is not a sequential 12-step program where you master one level before unlocking the next. Rather, these are the simultaneous ingredients of a healthy believer. We discuss what it looks like to exercise self-control in our spending and driving habits, and how true knowledge involves discerning God’s will in our specific circumstances.

The passage also comes with a stark warning. A Christian can be saved yet still be “useless and unfruitful.” We examine the tragedy of spiritual amnesia—forgetting that we have been cleansed from our old sins—and how this leads to spiritual blindness. If you want to avoid stalling out in your walk with Jesus, this message is a call to active participation in your sanctification.

If you are looking for clear, expository teaching from a Calvary Chapel perspective, this video will help you assess your growth. Join us as we learn to cultivate the gifts God has given us and ensure that our faith is neither barren nor unfruitful.

Remember the days of payphones and 1-800-COLLECT? In this study, titled “2 Peter 1:3-4 – Called Collect,” we use a blast from the past to illustrate a timeless spiritual truth. God has placed a call to your heart. It is a collect call, but unlike the old phone companies that charged exorbitant fees, God is the one footing the bill. When we answer, we don’t pay; we collect. We collect the spiritual resources necessary for a thriving relationship with Jesus.

As we continue our verse-by-verse study through 2 Peter, we find the Apostle writing with breathless urgency. He knows his martyrdom is approaching, so he doesn’t waste time. He wants us to know that Christianity is far more than just “fire insurance” for the afterlife. It is a present-day reality powered by the Divine nature of Jesus Christ. Peter makes the bold claim that God has already given us “everything required for life and godliness.” This isn’t a promise of material wealth or perfect health, but a guarantee that every spiritual necessity—peace, joy, wisdom, and endurance—is available to us right now through the knowledge of Him.

In this Bible study, we define what true godliness looks like. It isn’t just a list of rules or things to avoid. It means worshipping well and living with reverence. This distinction was crucial for the early church because false teachers were creeping in, encouraging people to live by craving rather than calling. They claimed you could follow Jesus while indulging in the corruption of the world. Peter shatters that myth. He teaches that true faith transforms us, allowing us to escape the evil desires that infect the world around us.

We also explore the “great and precious promises” mentioned in verse 4. Through these promises, we are invited to share in the divine nature. This doesn’t mean we become little gods, but that we are continually conformed to the image of Christ. We discuss how we access this power through the knowledge of Him—not merely academic trivia, but a relational, deep understanding of who Jesus is.

Are you screening God’s calls? He is calling you into faith and fellowship. If you are looking for solid, expository teaching from a Calvary Chapel perspective, this video is for you. We invite you to open your Bible to 2 Peter chapter 1 and discover that you have everything you need for the journey ahead. In this opening study of our series through 2 Peter, we look at the final testament of the Apostle Peter. Writing while facing imminent execution under Nero, Peter’s parting words offer a striking contrast to the famous final speeches of secular history. While figures like Socrates faced death with uncertainty, Peter writes with the absolute confidence of someone who has walked on water and witnessed the Transfiguration firsthand. This verse-by-verse teaching focuses on the first two verses of chapter one, where we find a call to remember the eternal truths of our faith.

From a Calvary Chapel perspective, we believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and 2 Peter is a vital part of that revelation. Though some modern critics attempt to label this letter as a “transparent fiction,” the historical and internal evidence points to the fisherman himself.

Peter identifies as both a servant and an apostle, emphasizing that true freedom is found in total dependence on Jesus Christ. He makes a staggering claim right out of the gate: that every believer has received a faith equal to that of the apostles. This means you are not a second-class spiritual citizen; through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ, you have the same standing and access to the Father as the men who walked with Him in Galilee.

The theme of this study, Peace of Remind, explores how grace and peace are multiplied to us through the knowledge of God. Peter uses the word for knowledge repeatedly in this short book because our spiritual growth is tied to our understanding of who Jesus is. This isn’t just about memorizing facts; it is a personal, relational knowledge that transforms how we live. In a world full of scoffers and false teachers, Peter reminds us that God has provided everything we need for life and godliness.

Whether you are interested in the life of Peter, the history of the early church, or simply want to know how to grow in your walk with the Lord, this study highlights the reliability of God’s promises. We aren’t just waiting around; we are actively growing in the grace and peace that comes from knowing our Savior. Join us as we begin this journey through a book that serves as a triumphant rallying cry for every believer to stand firm and look forward to the return of Christ.
