Psalm 67 – Bless Testing: Understanding God’s Blessing in Christian Living
Join us as we continue our Bible study series through the Psalms, diving into Psalm 67, often called the Lord’s Prayer of the Old Testament. In this message, titled “Bless Testing,” we explore one of the most common prayers among believers: asking God to bless us. But what does true biblical blessing really mean, and how does it align with God’s will for our lives and for the world?
Many of us pray for God to bless our families, our work, our daily lives. From the story of Jacob wrestling with God in Genesis to the priestly blessing in Numbers 6:22-27, God’s people have always sought His favor and intervention. Even in the Lord’s Prayer taught by Jesus in the New Testament, we see a longing for God’s provision and guidance, though the word “bless” isn’t explicitly used. This Christian sermon examines how our understanding of blessing might differ from God’s divine intentions.
We often define blessing as the granting of our desires or the easing of our circumstances. However, as we unpack Psalm 67, we discover that God’s blessing is not merely about receiving tangible provisions, but primarily about His presence and His present work in our lives. It’s about His grace transforming us and equipping us to be a testimony of His power and salvation to all nations.
Discover how God’s grace changes everything, extending mercy and kindness, and providing His abiding presence. We’ll consider the significant phrase “may He make His face shine upon us” and the meaning of “Selah” in the Psalms, prompting us to pause and reflect on the type of blessing we truly seek. This Bible teaching highlights that while God wants us to bring our requests to Him, His ultimate desire is for His way to be known on earth and His salvation revealed among all peoples.
Learn about the global enterprise of God’s blessing and how His work in our personal lives contributes to His larger plan for the world. As we seek God’s blessing, we pray for redemption, providence, and revelation to take place through our lives, demonstrating to a watching world that the God of the Bible is a Deliverer.
This video emphasizes the importance of worship and praise as an informed response to God’s greatness and His sovereign work. We reflect on how God leads the nations and how believers are invited to follow Him, trusting in His faithfulness and His plan. The message concludes with a reaffirmation that God is a God who wants to bless, does bless daily, and will continue to bless His people, ultimately leading to an awed recognition of who He is—the “fear of God.”
